What is FSA / HSA?
Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) and Health Savings Accounts (HSA) are employer-sponsored healthcare benefit that allows employees to set aside up to $2,850 (2022) annually to cover the cost of qualified medical expenses.Â
Both of the accounts work the same and are usually withdrawn from regular payroll deductions, pre-tax, which also reduces the tax liability. The employee also can choose how much they contribute to their account. Some employers offer both HSA and FSA accounts for employees, depending on their insurance plan.
These funds are subject to a use-it-or-lose-it rule, meaning that any funds unspent by the end of each year are forfeited to the account holder’s employer. You may lose your remaining money if you miss the 2022 deadline, December 31, 2022.
How does it work?
You can use your FSA or HSA debit card to make purchases using the funds you have set aside for 2022. If you do not have an FSA/HSA card, you can also pay using a regular credit or debit card and then submit the claim to your plan administrator to receive reimbursement.
What if the wheelchair or mobility scooter costs more than the funds in my FSA/HSA account?
We can split the payment so that a portion can be covered using your FSA or HSA debit card. The remainder will need to be paid out of pocket.
