Buying

How do I choose the right mobility scooter?
Consider where you'll use it most—indoors, outdoors, or both. Think about your travel needs, weight capacity, and desired range. A 3-wheel scooter is great for indoor maneuverability, while a 4-wheel offers more stability for outdoor use.
What's the difference between a 3-wheel and 4-wheel scooter?
3-wheel scooters have a tighter turning radius, making them ideal for navigating tight indoor spaces like hallways and store aisles. 4-wheel scooters provide a wider base of support, offering enhanced stability on uneven outdoor terrain.
What is a travel or portable mobility scooter?
Travel scooters are designed to be lightweight and easy to transport. They can either be folded or disassembled into a few manageable pieces to fit in a car trunk, making them perfect for shopping, errands, and vacations.
Should I get a mobility scooter or a power wheelchair?
Mobility scooters are best for people who can sit upright for long periods and have good upper body strength to operate the tiller steering. Power wheelchairs are better for those who need more seating support or have limited hand and arm strength, as they use a joystick.
What measurements do I need before buying?
Know your height and weight to ensure you choose a scooter with the right capacity and seat size. Also, measure the doorways and hallways in your home to ensure the scooter will fit if you plan to use it indoors.
Do I need a license to operate a mobility scooter?
No, in the United States, a driver's license is not required to operate a mobility scooter. They are classified as personal mobility devices, and you are generally considered a pedestrian when using one.
What is a heavy-duty or bariatric scooter?
Heavy-duty scooters are built with reinforced frames and more powerful motors to support higher weight capacities, typically from 400 to 500 pounds. They offer a more robust and durable option for larger individuals or rugged use.
Can I test drive a scooter before buying?
While we don't offer at-home trials, we provide detailed product videos, specifications, and expert phone support to help you feel confident in your choice. Our team can walk you through the features of any model.
How fast do mobility scooters go?
Most travel scooters have a top speed of around 4-5 mph, which is a brisk walking pace. Full-size and heavy-duty models can reach speeds of 5-8 mph, with some specialty scooters going even faster.
How far can a scooter go on a single charge?
The travel range varies by model, battery size, and terrain. Travel scooters typically offer 8-15 miles per charge, while full-size models can go 15-25 miles or more. User weight and inclines will affect the total range.

Cost & Payments

How much does a mobility scooter cost?
Prices vary based on type and features. Lightweight travel scooters start around $800, mid-range full-size models are typically $1,500-$3,500, and heavy-duty or all-terrain scooters can cost $5,000 or more.
Do you offer financing?
Yes, we offer several flexible financing options to help make your purchase more affordable. You can apply on our website or contact our sales team to find a payment plan that works for your budget.
Does Medicare or insurance cover mobility scooters?

Can I use my HSA or FSA account?
Yes, mobility scooters are considered qualified medical expenses, so you can typically use funds from your Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) to purchase one. Check with your plan administrator for details.
Are there any hidden costs?
Your main ongoing cost will be battery replacement, which is typically needed every 1-2 years. Other potential costs include new tires and routine maintenance. An extended warranty can help cover unexpected repair costs.
Why are some scooters so much more expensive than others?
Price is affected by factors like weight capacity, travel range, suspension quality, seat comfort, and brand. Scooters with longer ranges, higher weight limits, and advanced features like full suspension systems cost more.
Is shipping included in the price?
Yes, we offer free standard shipping on all mobility scooters within the continental United States. Expedited shipping or white-glove delivery services are available for an additional fee.
Do you have a price match policy?
Yes, we are committed to offering the best prices. If you find the same scooter advertised for less by an authorized dealer, contact us, and we will do our best to match the price.

Shipping & Delivery

How long will it take to receive my scooter?
Most in-stock scooters ship within 1-2 business days and arrive within 3-7 business days via standard ground shipping. Custom or special-order items may take longer.
How is the scooter delivered?
Scooters are delivered by freight carriers like FedEx or UPS. They arrive in a secure box, and the driver will typically leave it at your doorstep. A signature may be required for some deliveries.
Do you offer inside delivery and setup?
Yes, we offer a white-glove delivery service for an additional fee. This service includes bringing the scooter inside, unpacking it, performing basic assembly, and removing all packaging materials.
Can I track my order?
Yes. Once your mobility scooter ships, we will email you a tracking number. You can use this number to track your order online and its delivery progress, including estimated delivery times.
What should I do if my scooter arrives damaged?
Please inspect the box for any visible damage before accepting the delivery. IDo not sign any paperwork if there is any damage. If you find any damage, refuse the shipment and contact us immediately. Obtain photos of the damage and any other supporting documentation.
Do you ship to Alaska or Hawaii?
No. We do not ship to Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico.
Can you ship to a PO Box?
No, due to their size and weight, mobility scooters cannot be shipped to a PO Box. We require a physical street address for all deliveries.
What if I'm not home for the delivery?
Most carriers will leave the package at your door. If a signature is required, someone must be present at home to accept delivery and sign.
Does the scooter come fully assembled?
Most scooters require minimal assembly, such as attaching the seat, armrests, and basket, and connecting the battery. No special tools are typically required. Many mobility scooters come already fully assembled and delivered on a pallet.
Can I change my shipping address after ordering?
Address changes may not be possible before the item ships. Once an item is in transit, address changes may not be made. Please confirm your address at checkout.

Setup & Assembly

Is it hard to assemble a mobility scooter?
Not at all. Most scooters are designed for easy, tool-free assembly. You'll typically just need to place the seat on its post, attach the armrests and basket, and connect the battery pack.
Are instructions included?
Yes, every scooter comes with a detailed owner's manual that provides step-by-step assembly instructions. We also have assembly videos for many of our popular models on our website.
What should I do first after unboxing?
First, inspect all parts to ensure nothing is missing or damaged. Then, follow the assembly instructions carefully. The final and most important step is to give the scooter a full initial charge (usually 8-12 hours) before your first ride.
How do I assemble a travel scooter that disassembles?
Disassembling travel scooters are designed for quick breakdown and setup. They typically break into 4-5 lightweight pieces using simple levers or knobs, making it easy to reassemble in just a minute or two.
Do I need any special tools?
No, the vast majority of mobility scooters do not require any tools for assembly. All connections are made with knobs, levers, or drop-in components.
How do I connect the battery?
Most scooters have a simple drop-in battery box or a plug-and-play connector. Ensure the battery is seated securely and the connection is firm. The owner's manual will show the exact procedure for your model.
What if I have trouble with assembly?
If you run into any issues, please call our technical support team. We can walk you through the process over the phone. Alternatively, you can opt for our white-glove delivery service for professional, in-home setup.
How do I adjust the seat and tiller?
Most scooters feature an adjustable-height seat and a tilting tiller (steering column). Adjust the seat so your feet can rest comfortably on the floor deck, and set the tiller to a comfortable distance for your arms.
What is the 'freewheel' lever?
The freewheel lever disengages the motor, allowing the scooter to be pushed manually. Always ensure this lever is in the 'drive' position before attempting to operate the scooter, or it will not move.
How do I check if everything is working correctly?
After assembly and charging, turn the key and check the battery gauge. Test the throttle levers to ensure forward and reverse work, check the horn and lights, and make sure the brakes engage when you release the throttle.

Battery & Charging

How long does it take to charge the battery?
A full charge typically takes 8-12 hours for standard sealed lead-acid (SLA) batteries. Scooters with lithium-ion batteries can charge much faster, often in just 2-6 hours.
Should I charge my scooter after every use?
Yes, it is highly recommended to charge your scooter after every use, no matter how short the trip. This practice keeps the battery topped off and helps maximize its overall lifespan.
Can I overcharge the batteries?
No, you cannot overcharge your scooter's batteries. All our scooters come with smart chargers that automatically shut off once the battery is full, so it is safe to leave it plugged in overnight.
How long do mobility scooter batteries last before needing replacement?
With proper care and regular charging, sealed lead-acid (SLA) batteries typically last 12-18 months. More expensive lithium-ion batteries can last significantly longer, often 2-3 years or more.
What's the difference between SLA and lithium-ion batteries?
Sealed Lead-Acid (SLA) batteries are the industry standard, offering a good balance of performance and cost. Lithium-ion batteries are lighter, charge faster, and have a longer lifespan, but they come at a higher initial cost.
How do I know when it's time to replace my batteries?
The most common sign is a noticeable decrease in your scooter's travel range. If a fully charged scooter can no longer complete your usual trips, it's likely time for new batteries.
Can I use a different charger with my scooter?
It is strongly recommended to only use the charger that came with your scooter or an identical replacement from the manufacturer. Using an incompatible charger can damage your batteries and be a safety hazard.
How much do replacement batteries cost?
A pair of replacement SLA batteries typically costs between $100 and $300. Replacement lithium-ion batteries are more expensive, often ranging from $300 to $800 or more, depending on the scooter model.
Can I charge the batteries off-board?
Many travel scooters feature a removable battery pack that can be charged separately from the scooter frame. This is a convenient feature that allows you to leave the scooter in your car while charging the battery inside.
How should I store my batteries if I'm not using the scooter for a while?
If you plan to store your scooter for more than a few weeks, it's best to fully charge the batteries and then store them in a cool, dry place. For long-term storage, it's a good idea to recharge them at least once a month to maintain their health.

Maintenance

What regular maintenance does my scooter need?
Regular maintenance is simple. Keep your scooter clean, check the tire pressure (for pneumatic tires) weekly, and ensure all nuts and bolts are snug. Most importantly, keep your batteries charged.
How do I clean my mobility scooter?
Use a damp cloth with mild soap and water to wipe down the body, seat, and tiller. Avoid spraying water directly on the electronic components, such as the dashboard and charging port.
What are the most common scooter problems?
The most frequent issues are related to the batteries losing their ability to hold a charge. Other common problems include worn-out tires, a faulty ignition switch, or issues with the throttle potentiometer from exposure to moisture.
How often should I check the tires?
If you have air-filled (pneumatic) tires, check the pressure weekly. For all tire types, visually inspect them monthly for signs of wear, cracks, or damage. Worn tires can affect stability and braking.
What's the difference between solid and pneumatic tires?
Solid tires are maintenance-free and can never go flat, but they provide a firmer ride. Pneumatic (air-filled) tires offer a smoother, more cushioned ride but require you to monitor the air pressure and are susceptible to punctures.
Do I need professional servicing?
While you can perform most routine maintenance yourself, it's a good idea to have your scooter professionally serviced once a year. A technician can check the motor brushes, brakes, bearings, and electrical connections to ensure everything is in safe working order.
What should I do if my scooter gets wet?
If your scooter gets caught in the rain, dry it off with a towel as soon as possible. Pay special attention to the tiller, seat, and electrical components. Allow it to air dry completely before operating or charging it.
How should I store my scooter?
Store your scooter in a clean, dry place, away from extreme temperatures. A garage or shed is ideal. If you must store it outside, use a heavy-duty, weather-resistant cover to protect it from the elements.
My scooter is making a strange noise. What should I do?
Unusual noises like grinding or clicking should be investigated immediately. Stop using the scooter and check for any loose parts or debris caught in the wheels. If you can't find the source, contact our technical support for assistance.
The key is stuck in the ignition. What can I do?
This can happen due to corrosion from moisture. Try applying a small amount of lubricant like WD-40 around the key. If it's broken off, you may be able to gently remove the piece with tweezers. If not, the ignition switch may need to be replaced.

Repairs & Service

What should I do if my scooter breaks down?
First, check the simple things: Is the key turned on? Is the battery charged? Is the freewheel lever in the 'drive' position? If it still won't work, consult the troubleshooting section of your owner's manual or call our support team.
Where can I get my scooter repaired?
We have a network of authorized service technicians across the country. Contact us, and we can help you find a qualified professional in your area to diagnose and repair your scooter.
Are repairs covered under warranty?
Repairs for issues caused by manufacturing defects are covered under the manufacturer's warranty. (1-3 years). Damage from misuse, accidents, or normal wear and tear is typically not covered.
How much do common repairs cost?
Costs vary, but a battery replacement is typically $100-$300. A new tire might be $50-$150, and more complex repairs like a new motor or controller could cost several hundred dollars. An extended warranty can help protect against these costs.
Can I do repairs myself?
You can perform simple maintenance like changing a tire or replacing an armrest. However, for more complex electrical or motor issues, we strongly recommend using a qualified technician to ensure the repair is done safely and correctly.
How long does it take to get parts?
Most manufacturer parts can ship within a few business days. Custom orders can take 1-3 weeks.
My scooter's speed is inconsistent. What's wrong?
This is often a sign of a faulty throttle potentiometer, the part that controls the speed. It can be damaged by moisture. This part is relatively inexpensive and can be replaced by a technician.
Should I repair my old scooter or buy a new one?
If your scooter is more than 5 years old and requires a repair that costs more than half the price of a new, comparable model, it's often more cost-effective to invest in a new scooter with a full warranty.
Do you offer in-home service?
In-home service availability depends on your location and the network of technicians in your area. Contact us to see if in-home repair is an option for you.
What information do I need when I call for service?
Please have your name and order number ready, and a detailed description of the problem ready. This information will help our technicians diagnose and resolve any issues.

Does using non-brand parts void my warranty?
Using aftermarket parts can potentially void the warranty on related components if the part causes a failure. To be safe, it's always best to use genuine, manufacturer-approved parts during the warranty period.
What is a vehicle lift?
A vehicle lift is a device that is installed on your car, truck, or SUV to transport your scooter for you. It eliminates the need to disassemble the scooter or lift heavy pieces, making it a great option for those who travel frequently with a full-size scooter.

What does 'original packaging' mean?
This means the scooter must be returned in the original manufacturer's box with all the original foam, packing materials, and protective wrapping intact. This is required to ensure the item is not damaged during return transit.

Warranty

What kind of warranty comes with a new scooter?
New scooters come with a manufacturer's warranty that covers defects in materials and workmanship. The length of the warranty varies by part, but it typically includes coverage for the frame, motor, and electronics.
How long is the warranty period?
Warranty periods differ by manufacturer and component. Generally, the frame has a limited lifetime warranty, the drive train and electronics are covered for 1-2 years, and batteries are covered for 6-12 months.
What is not covered by the warranty?
Warranties do not cover normal wear-and-tear items like tires, seat upholstery, or armrest pads. They also do not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, or improper maintenance.
How do I file a warranty claim?
If you believe you have a warranty issue, contact our customer service team. We will help you troubleshoot the problem and will work with the manufacturer to process your claim and arrange for service or parts.
Do I need to register my product for the warranty?
While not always mandatory, we highly recommend registering your scooter with the manufacturer after purchase. This makes any future warranty claims much faster and easier to process.
Is the warranty transferable if I sell my scooter?
Most manufacturer warranties are non-transferable and only apply to the original purchaser. Please check the specific warranty documentation for your scooter model.
Does the warranty cover labor costs for repairs?
Most standard warranties cover the cost of the replacement parts, but not the labor to install them. Some brands offer a limited in-home service plan for the first year. An extended warranty can provide more comprehensive labor coverage.
Will making my own repairs void the warranty?
Performing basic maintenance is fine, but attempting complex electrical or motor repairs yourself can void the warranty. It's always best to use an authorized technician for warranty-related service.
What if a part fails that is not under warranty?
If a part fails outside of the warranty period, you will be responsible for the cost of the part and any labor charges for the repair. We can help you order the necessary parts.
Where can I find the warranty details for my scooter?
The full warranty information is included in the owner's manual that comes with your scooter. You can also find warranty details on the product page on our website or on the manufacturer's website.

Extended Warranty

What is an extended warranty?
An extended warranty is an optional service plan provided by SureBright that covers repairs after the standard manufacturer's warranty expires.
Is an extended warranty worth it?
For many users, it is a valuable investment. A single major repair, such as a new motor or transaxle, can often cost more than the price of the extended warranty plan itself.
What does an extended warranty cover?
Our plans typically cover the failure of key components, such as the motor, controller, and electrical system, as well as some parts. Many plans also include coverage for labor costs and service calls, which are often not covered by the standard warranty.
When can I purchase an extended warranty?
An extended warranty must be purchased at the same time as your mobility scooter. Extended warranties can not be purchased at a later date.
How long does the coverage last?
We offer a variety of plans with different coverage lengths, typically ranging from one to three additional years beyond the manufacturer's warranty.
How do I use my extended warranty?
Contact SureBright customer service or file a claim with the warranty service provider. They will coordinate with a local technician to diagnose the issue and perform the covered repairs.
Is there a deductible?
Some plans may have a small deductible per service call, while others may have no deductible at all. The specific terms will be clearly outlined in the service plan agreement.
Does it cover battery replacement?
Because batteries are considered a 'wear' item that degrades over time, they are typically not covered under extended warranty plans.
Can I cancel an extended warranty plan?
Yes, you can typically cancel a plan within a certain period for a pro-rated refund. The specific cancellation policy will be detailed in your service agreement.
Is the extended warranty transferable?
No. In most cases, extended warranty plans are not transferable to a new owner if you sell the scooter. The coverage is tied to the original purchaser.

Safety & Use

Are mobility scooters safe to use?
Yes, when operated responsibly and according to the manufacturer's guidelines, mobility scooters are safe. Always be aware of your surroundings and drive at an appropriate speed for the conditions.
Can I use my scooter on hills?
Most scooters are rated to handle inclines of 6 to 8 degrees. It's important to always drive straight up or down a slope and avoid traversing across it, which can increase the risk of tipping.
Can I use my scooter in the rain?
Mobility scooters are not waterproof and their electrical components can be damaged by water and moisture. It's best to avoid using them in the rain. If you get caught in a shower, seek shelter and dry the scooter off as soon as possible.
What are the main safety features of a scooter?
Key safety features include automatic brakes that engage when you release the throttle, anti-tip wheels to prevent tipping on inclines, and a horn to alert others of your presence. Many also have headlights and taillights for visibility.
Where can I legally ride my scooter?
You can ride your scooter on sidewalks, in parks, and inside stores and malls. While some Class 3 scooters are road-legal in certain areas, it is generally safest to avoid riding in the street with traffic.
How do I safely get on and off my scooter?
Make sure the scooter is turned off before getting on or off. Many models have swivel seats and flip-up armrests to make transfers easier and safer.
Can I carry groceries or other items on my scooter?
Yes, most scooters come with a front or rear basket. Be careful not to overload the basket and your scooter, or carry items that could obstruct your view or affect your balance.
Should I wear a helmet?
While not legally required in most places, wearing a helmet is always a good safety practice, especially if you plan to operate your scooter at its top speed or on uneven terrain.
How do I navigate curbs?
Only attempt to navigate very low, dropped curbs, and always approach them straight on. Most scooters are not designed to climb standard-height curbs, and attempting to do so can be dangerous. Use curb cuts and ramps whenever possible.
Can I carry a passenger?
No, standard mobility scooters are designed and safety-rated for a single rider only. Carrying a passenger, including a child, is unsafe and can cause the scooter to become unstable.

Travel & Transport

Can I take my mobility scooter on an airplane?
Yes, if you have lithium-ion batteries. Only non-spillable (sealed, Gel, or AGM) lead-acid batteries are permitted. It is recommended to check with your airline first before flying.
Are there special rules for scooter batteries on planes?
Yes. FAA regulations require that lithium-ion batteries be removed from the scooter and carried in the cabin. The battery must be under 300 Wh. Sealed lead-acid (SLA) batteries can typically remain in the scooter. Always confirm with your airline before you fly.
How do I transport my scooter in a car?
Travel scooters can be folded or disassembled to fit in most car trunks. For larger, full-size scooters, you will need a vehicle lift, which is a carrier that attaches to your vehicle's hitch to transport the scooter externally.
What is the best type of scooter for travel?
A lightweight, folding scooter with an airline-compliant lithium-ion battery is the ideal choice for frequent travelers. These models are compact, easy to manage, and designed specifically for travel.
Can I take my scooter on a cruise ship?
Yes, mobility scooters are welcome on virtually all cruise ships. You can ride your scooter throughout the ship and in your cabin. Book an accessible stateroom to ensure you have enough space for your scooter.
Can I use my scooter on public transportation like buses and trains?
Most modern public buses and trains are equipped with ramps or lifts and have designated spaces to accommodate mobility scooters. Check with your local transit authority for their specific rules and guidelines.
How can I protect my scooter from damage during travel?
When flying, we recommend removing any loose items like baskets and taking the battery and joystick (if possible) with you in your carry-on. Use a travel bag to protect the scooter from damage while in the cargo area.
Do I need to notify the airline in advance?
Yes, it is essential to notify the airline at the time of booking that you will be traveling with a mobility scooter. They will ask for the dimensions, weight, and battery type to ensure they are prepared to accommodate it.
Can I rent a scooter at my destination?
Yes, scooter rentals are available in most major tourist destinations. This can be a convenient option if you don't want to travel with your own scooter.
Will my scooter work in other countries?
Your scooter will work, but you may need a plug adapter and/or a voltage converter to charge it. Check if your charger is 'dual-voltage' (110V-240V). If not, you will need a converter to safely charge your scooter in countries with 220/240V electricity.
